Rules and Regulations

This competition is open to any resident of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Latin America, South America and the Carribean Islands.

All competitors must not have reached their twenty-sixth (26) birthday by the start of the first round of the final preliminaries.
All games must be played on KGS at the time of scheduled play.
Failure to appear results in forfeiture of the match.
Continuous failure to appear at any of your matches causes a suspension for one year.

Should a league member or titleholder reach their 26th birthday, then they will be allowed to finish that year's tournament, and then must vacate their seat in subsequent years.

No entry fee for members of the American Go Honor Society or the Canadian Go Honor Society Non-members need to pay $2 to off-set tournament entry procedures.

For the 2006 Kato Masao Memorial Series Preliminaries, we are limiting entries to the first seventy-two (72) members who register for the tournament. In order to register, please submit your full name, rank, city and state/province, as well as your date of birth to determin complete eligibility for this tournament sequence. Violators of eligibility rules will incur fines not to exceed one hundred (US $100) dollars.

First/Second Preliminaries
Single-Elimination
Games played 45 minutes, 4 periods of byo-yomi of 30 seconds No Handicap is allowed, black/white will be pre-determined

Seeded players will receive a first round bye in this competition format for excellent performance in other activities of the American Go Honor Society and sister clubs.
Receiving seeded recognition are:

American Go Honor Society - national officers Canadian Go Honor Society - national president / vice-presidents 2005 United States champion - K-12 Team Go Tournament 2005 Canada champion - National Grade School Team Tournament

Final Preliminaries
Round Robin - Split into two pools
Games played 60 minutes, 4 periods of byo-yomi of 30 seconds
No handicap is allowed, black/white will be pre-determined
The champions of the final preliminaries fight for right to take on the titleholder.
The lowest scoring members of the round robin are demoted into the first preliminaries.

Prizes
Monetary prizes are given to the top finishers in the league round. A cup trophy is also given to the title holder. graciously donated by the American Go Honor Society
