My daughter Rose was born December 30, 1992. I was put on bedrest in October of 1992 because of preterm labor. My due date was January 10, 1993. I was seeing a rather old obstetrician, because of the preterm problem. I had dilated to 1 cm in October.

I had my 38 week check up (thank goodness my husband came with me) two days after Christmas. The doctor checked me and I had dilated to 3 cm, and then he felt the baby's positioning. He made some weird noises, then said that we had to schedule a c-section for as soon as we could. He said the baby (a boy he said hee hee), was lying in a transverse breech position, with his head under my ribs on the left side and his feet on the right. I was frightened.

We were ushered into another office to set up the c-section, for Wednesday, December 30 at 10 am. I was to stay off of my feet completely and do nothing to make me go into labor until I was admitted into the hospital.

Wednesday, December 30, I woke up and packed my bag, woke my husband and we left for the hospital. The prep work was humiliating, shave and enema, and then I was taken of an ultrasound to check the baby's positioning. Obviously, Dr. Reed was experienced, he was exactly right as to how our baby (boy confirmed!) was lying.

At 12 pm, I was taken in the OR, and the spinal was administered, soon after my husband came in and the surgery began. The sonogram had shown that the baby appeared to be approximately 4 to 4 and a half pounds and registered by measurements to be about 32 weeks gestation. We were frightened, but at this time I was dilated to five cm and the contractions (though I could not feel them) were full blown contractions.

At 12:34 pm our baby was lifted from my stomach. After much pulling to get the head free from my ribs. Our baby was healthy, 6 lbs 11 1/2 ounces, and a GIRL!!!! She was beautiful, and perfect, APGARs of 9 and 10. A full term baby!!! She nursed almost immediately after they brought her to me and nursed beautifully until she stopped at 13 months (when I found I was pregnant with our second baby).
