Birth Story of Cassidy Anne Kohler

7 lbs 12 oz

I was due on November 9, 1994. I had a very hard pregnancy all the way through. I had morning sickness and the last two months they put me on bed rest. I was already dilated to 7 by the 7th month and they were worried that the baby would be born too soon.

I had gone in to see the doctor on November 10th and he scared me quite a bit. He said that the baby was breech and we would have to watch very carefully for labor to start. At the first sign, he wanted me to get to the hospital, 30 minutes away, in case they had to do a c-section. I did not argue with him. He was also concerned since I was a fast deliverer and he wanted to make sure that I made it there. He said that if I did not have her by Monday the 14th, they were going to schedule me for a c-section. That was a little bit of a relief. They did not want to do it too soon since they were hoping that she would turn the right way.

On Sunday the 13th, she decided that she did not want to wait until Monday. At 6:30 p.m. she started to give me the sign that she wanted to be born. We headed right away to the hospital. We arrived at the hospital at 6:55. We made it in record time. They were waiting for me again, since the family called and told them that I was on my way and I was having contraction less than 30 seconds apart. They wheeled me to my room and told me to put on my gown. when I stood up from the chair, my water broke really hard. they were going to check me to see if they could do a c-section. When they checked they said that it was too late and I was delivering NOW!!! Her feet were already coming out. I was SOOO scared. Everyone ahd told me how terrible labor was for a breech baby.

They took me into the room next door which was the delivery room. I pushed four times and she was born. I tore really bad and had a lot of bleeding. I did not know it at the time but there was about 30 people in the room to watch the birth since they did not have very many breech natural births. I was a learning experience for them all. At 7:25 p.m. Cassidy Anne came into the world at 7 lbs 12 oz. She was not breathing and they had to resuscitate her to get her back. They said that was natural since she had such a traumatic birth.

They took me then to my recovery room, after stitching me back up. Mike said that he was going to to home since he had to work the next day. he wanted to stop at a couple of places on his way home to let people know that the baby was born. Just before he left, I blacked out. They brought me back with smelling salts and did a D&C right in the recovery room. Apparently, not all the placenta had come out and they had to remove it. That scared me a little bit. Mike stayed around for a while longer and then he said that he wanted to get going. At 9:30 he left the hospital. About 20 minutes after he left, they called him at his first place that he was going to stop. They told him that he had to come back to the hospital. I had blacked out again and he had to sign papers for me to have a surgical d&c to see why I was still bleeding.

He came back and they wheeled me into the Operating room. They did the second d&C under anesthesia. I told the doctor that if he tried to do it again in the recovery room, I would sue him. The pain from that was worse than all three of the births that I had had. They did that and I seemed fine again. Needless to say, this was not the end.

For the next four weeks, I was still bleeding heavy. It did not seem to slack off at all. Exactly 30 days after Cassidy was born, Mike was running me back to the emergency room. I was hemmorraghing again and they did not know why. They did, yet again, another emergency D&C in the emergency room. The doctor was not very nice about it. He thought that I was exaggerating the bleeding until he actually saw it himself. After this, I told Mike that I would not try to have any more children. I had almost bled to death 3 times and they thought that it was funny.

We decided that our family was big anough and that would have to be the end of it. We are very happy that we did. Our 3 children are growing and are very happy. You can see them on our home page and read about their individual interests on their own pages linked from there.
