Birth Story of Zachary

My pregnancy was normal i guess, it has been my only one. I only gained 18lbs and was sick right into the delivery room. My son Zachary was 8 days late, we went to the hospital in the middle of the night and had to stop for gas LOL, he arrived via emergency c-section due to his size which was 9lbs 10 oz at 8:03 am on Mother's Day morning in 1986. I was awake for the c-sect and it was my first surgery so i was scared to death, i remember them telling me it was a boy and away he went around the corner to another room.

I was given something to make me sleep and the next thing i knew was the DR. was looking at me and he said, your baby had something wrong with it and he has been taken to the children's hospital 125 miles away. My husband and i were in shock, my husband did get to see Zachary and told me he was beautiful. Zachary was born with Spina Bifida. The nurses from the Children's hospital were calling me and telling me all kinds of things, i had no idea what they were talking about.

I finally got to go and see Zachary when he was 6 days old, he was really big and beautiful. I stayed with him for 5 weeks til he was finally able to come home. He had 6 surgeries in his first 6 weeks of life. He is such a trooper.
