In 1991, we were getting married. We had been living together since 1988 already, but since we had started trying for a baby at the end of 1990, we thought it would be a good idea to get married and get all the legalities nice and clean to prepare for kids. The day before the wedding, we got a positive result on the pregnancy test! What a wonderful news and what a wonderful way to spend the wedding, knowing there was a little baby growing inside of me! Nobody else knew about it yet. So this baby attended our wedding and accompanied us on our honeymoon in Norway.

We had to take a break, because Karen accepted a job offer from IBM and we moved from the Netherlands to the States. This was just going to be for a few years and we knew we were going back to the Netherlands after that, so we would postpone the rest of the kids till we were back.... After Jane was born, I decided to quit my job with IBM and Sander was going to find a job, so I would be the SAH parent instead of him. Finding a job was no problem, getting a visa was, we had a lot of trouble on our path to a work visa, and even ended up having to move back to the Netherlands for a while... 1998 was a pretty crazy year. We ended up moving FIVE times, the last time finally in our current home (and we now never want to move again! LOL) AND I got pregnant with Kate, just before the second move.
