The Sixth Time

Third Prenatal

Sixteen weeks now and yesterday was my third prenatal. It was in the middle of a busy day, Tara did gymnastics and swimming in the morning, and during the afternoon all three older kids had karate. Somewhere in between, I managed to have my prenatal at noon :-)

Everything was pretty normal. I didn't gain any weight over the last four weeks (must be because the brownies craving is past now :-). My urine was normal this time. Blood pressure was fine and uterus measured exactly as you would expect. I also told her about my exhaustion and she said that sometimes it helps to increase protein. Even although I think I am getting enough protein, I am going to try to get some extra anyway.

The kids immediately got her play doctor's kit out, and started listening to each other's and my belly, and taking blood pressure of every one. They really enjoyed that they also could listen to my pulse when the midwife took my blood pressure. Cees, Tim and Tara all took turns listening to it. They also spent a lot of time with the doll house, didn't play at all with the train this time.

The rest of the time we just chatted, there is not much going on with the pregnancy yet and it is still too early to hear the heart beat with the fethoscope. I think we will be able to do that next time, since that will be five weeks from now, because we both go on vacation in August. The kids will love that! Hearing the heartbeat for the first time is always very special.

Tara started gymnastics camp this week. They call it camp, but it is only 2 morning, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00am to 11:30, so not that long. Tuesday was her first day. She was looking forward to it, but got cold feet when we were close to the gymnastics place. 'Mama, will you stay there to take care of me?' I told her I would stay till the class started and a little longer to watch her, so we could see how she was doing. We were early, so had to wait about 10 minutes. Then they called all the gymnasts and they started warming up. Tara run downstairs, joined the warming up and never looked back :-)

We watched the first 45 minutes of the class, she was doing great. She participated in everything, not always in the right way, but the enthusiasm was there, she just needs quite some technical improvements LOL. They also do swimming, eat a snack and make a craft. On Tuesday it was a frog, on Thursday a flower. Both times she was very proud of her creation :-) I can't wait for Jane to start gymnastics too, it will be a good way to burn off her excess energy. She can start in the fall. She is a jumper, climber, runner and very agile, so I think she will very much enjoy gymnastics. At the moment she entertains herself at home and the playground by jumping from higher and higher surfaces.....

Today we had the boys last swimming lesson, that is one thing which is over for the summer! We might still go swimming, but no lessons anymore this season. It will be nice not to have to get up so early, since we had to be there at 8am or 8:30, depending on the day. And none of us are morning persons :-) Next week they will go to cub scouts day camp, which I think they will enjoy, it is their first year to do it. Tara will go back to her gymnastics camp, and I will visit a lot of playgrounds with Jane and Kate to let them run off energy too.
