The Sixth Time

Fourth Prenatal

Today I had my fourth prenatal. It was five weeks after the last one, instead of four, since first I went on vacation and then my midwife was on vacation. When I arrived, I found out that she needed to leave soon, because she had some one in early labor. She had called me, but things were hectic this morning and I totally forgot picking up my voicemail messages. Since I was there already, she decided to do the prenatal anyway, only shorter than usual, which was fine with me, since I didn't really have any big issues to talk about with her.

21 weeks My urine was fine this time, but I had gained six pounds. Must be all the baking I have been doing :-) Blood pressure was OK, and my fundal height was 21 cm, which is right on track, since I am twenty one weeks today. She used the fethoscope and we were able to hear the heart beat for the very first time! Baby kept kicking the fethoscope, so I wasn't very worried about the heart beat, since with the amount of kicking going on, there definitely had to be a heartbeat too :-) All the kids listened to the baby, not sure how much they could hear, since it was still very soft. But they all enjoyed listening anyway, looking very concentrated when it was their turn to hear the baby.

I asked her whether she could feel the baby's position yet and she tried a little, but although she could feel her body, she couldn't feel which parts were which yet. So we'll have to be more patient for that :-) I also asked her about the dizzy spells I have been having this pregnancy and she said it would most likely be low blood sugar, so I'll watch more carefully that I eat in time.

The last issue was my fatigue, which she asked about. I told her it had been going much better, but the last few days were worse again. She told me that it could be the baby having a growth spurt. Let's just hope that this growth spurt won't last too long then, since I really would like more energy again :-)

So overall a good visit, the kids behaved perfectly (which is not always the case :-) and both me and the baby are doing well. Another one scheduled for four weeks from now.
