The Sixth Time

Getting Ready

Twenty-six weeks, time sure is flying! Only a few more months and this baby will be born. So I am looking around in my house, and seeing lots of things I want to improve before she is here! I know I won't do much for a while when I just have a baby, so I want to start out with a perfectly clean and decluttered house! (yeah right! OK, but at least as decluttered as I can get it :-)

Of course, this is not the first time I am tackling this, but usually I get distracted somewhere on the way. I always started downstairs, where we live, but this time I have decided to start upstairs, in the master bed room. I figured it might be easier to keep that part of the house tidy, since we just sleep there and the kids are not playing there all the time, like they are downstairs. The only thing they do in the master bed room, is having 'music parties' with our radio, while jumping on the bed. Which doesn't generate any clutter, just a lot of noise :-)

Now you have to know that the master bed room is nice and roomy, but has become a catch all for boxes, laundry baskets and lots of other stuff over the years. Not only that, but we also have our own clothes in there, and all the clothes of Jane and Kate. And of course, the new baby will need some room for clothes too. So there is quite some decluttering and reorganizing to do.

I have been mentally preparing for this for the last few days, but couldn't start yet, because Kate was sick with a high fever and needed to be on my lap all the time. But today she was feeling better, so I finally could start on the project! Also, my husband was home, so that helped to keep the kids more entertained downstairs, so I could do some relatively uninterrupted declutter work.

clutter If you look at the picture, you'll see that one side of the room was totally full with boxes and other stuff and that's where I started. A lot were boxes with lego and Knex in it, picked up at good prices on line, and standing there, waiting for birthdays and the December holidays. I figured these boxes could as well wait in the basement, so I spent a lot of time combining them, and carrying them all downstairs. Lots of other stuff in the piles too, but I managed to work through most of that part of the room today, although some of it has just been set aside, waiting for the right place to put it.

One thing I found was a big, plastic bin, with all the things we needed for our last birth, Kate's! That was 18 months ago and it was still standing in our bed room! I put this in the basement too (yes, I know, the basement is getting full :-) We'll just have to add a few more things to this bin and we'll get it out again when this new baby is almost due.

Sander is doing his part of getting ready and got some outside painting work done today. We had been wanting to do that all summer, but we had a very wet summer, and had a hard time finding a good time. Since this weekend was supposed to be without rain, we figured today would be a good day, so that was his 'getting ready' project for today.

Back to the new baby. I am trying to have all the kids feel her kicking, but although she is usually very reactive, I seem to pick the wrong times for that! Tara and Jane got a nice, big kick today, but she was quiet when I tried to let Cees and Tim feel her. But at least I could let them feel where her head was, and how she was positioned, and they really liked doing that too.
