Winter!Winter has started! Not only officially, since we celebrated the winter solstice, but also effectively, because it it getting colder and colder and we have had lots of snow already. The kids love it, I am less thrilled. We have a very steep driveway and it can be quite a challenge in the winter to get the car to reach the top of it. I just hope that it won't snow when I have this baby! Don't want to have Sander go out and shovel the driveway while I am in the middle of giving birth :-) I do think that winter is a great time to have this baby though, apart from the snow and ice issues which could arise. During the summer, I would feel guilty if we stayed home a lot, because I wasn't up to going out with the new baby yet, and still recovering from the birth. During the winter, the weather often is icky anyway and it is just a time to stay home and snuggle up with a good book or a good movie. I made sure I have a good supply of new computer games and K'nex and lego, to get out when the kids are starting to get cabin fever. And the house is full with toys and things to do anyway, I think they will be fine. We'll keep up the gymnastics, since it is only once a week, but I think we'll take a leave of absence from karate for at least a few weeks.
No signs of any impending labor yet, it would have been neat to have a Christmas baby, but it doesn't look like that will happen. Not that I am surprised by that, with all the others being late, I totally expect to go late again, but of course, you never know. I had a prenatal this week and everything is going well. Next week I will have another prenatal, they are weekly now and the midwife will bring the birthing tub with her. I am going to use an Aquadoula this time, it will be fun to use an 'official water birth tub' this time, instead of a normal bath tub (with Tara) or a kiddie pool (with Jane and Kate). One more thing I got done last week, was setting up an appointment with our backup ob. I will see him on Wednesday. They like to see you once during your pregnancy, so that they know you if you have to transfer. This is a real neat ob, his wife is an ob too, and they work together. They have three kids, and two of those kids were born at home! I like the idea of my obs having had a homebirth themselves and they are also the kind of persons who won't push interventions, which is important to me. Of course, I hope I won't need them again, but it is nice to know that they are there, in case complications arise. So things are getting to get more and more ready, which is good, since it is less than 2 weeks till my official due date now. It will be fun to have a newborn again!
